I discovered Cool Gelato Italiano by accident the first year I moved to Scottsdale.  I love my sweets …  I prefer “fine” food and I have discriminating opinions when it comes to coffee and ice cream. I always liked gelato, until I went to Italy – that’s when I fell in love with it.  REAL gelato.




I am excited to share this Scottsdale treasure with everyone!

Husband and wife, Letizia De Luccia and Alberto Della Casa,  opened Cool Gelato Italiano five years ago (having come to the US three years prior). They are journalists by profession and were analysts in the food industry for over 20 years in Italy developing an even greater passion for food, and gelato in particular.  They spent many summer vacations learning in the gelato store of their Maestro, Massimo Barbetta, winner of the Italian Championship of gelato masters, and continued their education at his private school in the city of Chieti, Italy. Massimo Barbetta even came over to Scottsdale to assist with the opening of Cool Gelato Italiano in 2011.  Letizia and Alberto also attended the gelato university in Bologna, Italy.


The interior of the shop is a treat for the eyes and senses.  An aqua-marine color covers the floor like glass reflecting the Mediterranean Sea, while pieces of modern art decorate the walls.  The stylish tables and chairs come directly from Italy as well.

Letizia and Alberto are special people.  They have brought the Italian artisanal craft of gelato to Scottsdale with grace and integrity representing the culture and traditions they know so well.

 I cannot forget the perfectly Italian cappuccino and espresso they serve!


Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts is a great place to visit when you come to Scottsdale … the park setting and piece of Old Town,  but it’s worth making a special trip here just for the gelato.

HOURS:  Tuesday through Sunday Noon to 8:00PM  Friday and Saturday Noon to 9:00PM

Quick FACTS about artisanal gelato


  • Made fresh daily in small quantities. No preservatives and therefore, only a 72 hour shelf-life.

  • Gelato doesn’t contain as much air as ice cream and so the more intense flavor.

  • Gelato contains 60% - 70% less fat than ice cream and 40% - 60% fewer calories.

  • Only the finest ingredients are used either local or imported.  Natural – nothing artificial!

  • No cream and no eggs.  Flavors such as pistachio are made with pistachios that come directly from Sicily or hazelnuts from the Piedmont region in Italy.
